Disney Named Top Cruise Line

That’s right… Obviously Disney is doing something right because they were named the TOP cruise line out of all of them.  They also were named TOP family friendly large ship cruise line.  These things say a lot when I cruise Disney because I don’t go on a cruise to gamble.  I have a family, and knowing how Disney treats their guests is what matters to me.

Here is the information…

That’s right, No. 1! Disney Cruise Line was named the top cruise line by the readers of Condé Nast Traveler magazine last night at the 2010 Readers’ Choice Awards ceremony in New York City. Samantha Brown, renowned travel expert and television host on The Travel Channel, presented the award to Disney Cruise Line President Karl Holz at the gala.

While Disney Cruise Line has received over 50 different awards since the company’s beginning in 1998, this award marks a first when it comes to recognition of this caliber. The award is part of the magazine’s annual readers’ survey that recognizes the best in travel for resorts, destinations, airlines, cruise lines and car rental agencies. Disney was honored in the Mega-Ship category.

In addition, the readers of Travel + Leisure magazine also recently named Disney Cruise Line the Top Family-Friendly Large-Ship Cruise Line in their 2010 World’s Best Awards poll.

As Karl commented during his acceptance remarks for the Condé Nast Traveler award last night, this recognition is a testament to the cast and crew members who make the magic happen for our guests, “We build spectacular ships, explore exotic destinations and deliver entertainment that is uniquely Disney, but what our guests remember most is the personal touch that only our crew members can deliver.”

To that, I echo Karl’s remarks and offer congrats to my colleagues both ashore and aboard for achieving this incredible honor!

Dream Leaves Building Dock

Oh boy… We cannot wait for our Back To Back cruise in April onboard the Disney Dream…

Here is some information straight from the Meyer Werft site…

Disney’s first cruise ship nearing completion – Largest ever ship built by Meyer Werft

Papenburg, 1.10.2010 – On Saturday, 30 October 2010, the Disney Dream, the biggest cruise ship built by MEYER WERFT to date, will leave the yard’s covered building dock. The floating-out manoeuvre is supposed to commence around 5 pm. The Disney Dream is scheduled to float out of the dock the first time. The event will include a unique celebration to mark the milestone as the ship nears completion.

Upon leaving the building dock the Disney Dream will remain in the yard harbour. On the following Sunday MEYER WERFT’s and Disney Cruise Line’s tests & trials teams will perform functional tests of various technical systems such as the stabilizers and the rudders. Afterwards the cruise ship will remain berthed alongside the yard’s pier. In the following two weeks the remaining interior work will be completed, and more trials and acceptance tests will be conducted.

The Disney Dream is the first of two ships MEYER WERFT is building for Disney Cruise Line (USA). She is 340 m long, 37 m wide, and can accommodate as many as 4,000 passengers. Her powerful engines enable the Disney Dream to operate at a speed of up to 23.5 knots. Having a tonnage of 128,000 GT, she is the biggest cruise ship ever built in Germany. Measuring a length of 340 metres, she even counts among the three longest cruise ships in the world.

The ship is likely to leave MEYER WERFT and be conveyed down the river Ems on the second weekend in November. The exact date of the Ems conveyance will be published on www.meyerwerft.com approx. 1-2 weeks in advance.
