Speeding Experience In Disney

In 2 weeks I am going to Disney World.  I was lucky enough to be able to get a chance to see what the Indy Car Experience is like.  My brothers, and father have done the Richard Petty Experience in the past, but I have never done anything like this.  Yes, I do drive very fast when possible, but the speeds I will get to experience will be far more than I have ever, or will ever experience.

I have always wondered what kind of car insurance rates they have on the vehicles that you get in.  I know that they more than likely make you sign your life away before getting into the car, but that is part of the risk I am willing to take in order to finally see what the experience is like.  Maybe my wife should go get life insurance for me quickly.  On a serious note… I haven’t read of any issues at the Disney Speedway, and hope that none ever do.

Have you ever been on a “Race” experience before?  What was it like?

Remodeling Disney Style

Around our house we have tried to do various Disney decorating in the hopes that everything would eventually get done.  Throughout our house we have assorted animation cells, paintings, and pictures all dealing with Disney.  In the kitchen we have a nice collection of Disney salt and pepper shakers.  The computers in the house almost all have Disney wallpapers.  My daughter loves Tinkerbell, and my wife loves Eeyore.

When we just redid some of the rooms during the summer we took some of our future plans into consideration.  Being that we have white cabinets, and a black counter I want to get some black and white tiles to put in so that they blend well.  I have thought numerous times about getting a table from the Disney clearance house in Florida, but that will have to wait.  The kitchen sink leaves a bit of desire.  I have checked every manufacturer website that I can find to see if we could locate some sort of “Disney” faucet set.  We have even looked at Home Depot, and Lowes.  There was only one company that I have noticed in the past that handles a small assortment of “Disney” type items, and I believe it was Grohe.  Maybe I should go simple, and just deal with it.

I would love to have a home that has Disney written all over it.  I even told my wife that it would have been cool to get a Disney prop for the front yard.

Character Difference

Have you ever noticed how many Disney characters are based around “Old & Evil” look?  Even though I am a well seasoned Disney veteran I don’t claim to know everything, but I do know a lot.  Disney has added many characters over the years.  Well, I wouldn’t have noticed it as much if it wasn’t for my little one asking me about those characters.  I tried explaining about what the “Old & Evil” ones stand for.

I explained to her that the “Old & Evil” looking ones are Villains, while the “Young & Innocent” ones are the opposite.  Without these characters there would be no conflict, which would in turn cause there to be no story.

After that I told her that all Disney has to do is put some wrinkle fillers on the “Old & Evil” ones, and they wouldn’t look any different than the others.  In the same respect the other characters just have to age, and they would look the same.  Oddly enough I don’t believe there have been many characters that have aged at all.

I just happened to be surfing around, and found a picture that sums this all up… This shouldn’t be offensive.

Disney Cruise Line Recipe For Soup

Here is a recipe for Tomato Basil soup that is from the Disney Cruise Line kitchen.  This soup can be gotten at Lumiere’s and Triton’s restaurant on the Disney Cruise.

Serves 6

Ingredients:

  • 1 stick butter
  • 2 carrots, roughly chopped
  • 1 medium onion, roughly chopped
  • 1 stalk celery, roughly chopped
  • 1 leek, washed well, roughly chopped
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt, divided
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup malt vinegar
  • 1 (12-ounce) can tomato paste
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 5 cups low-sodium vegetable stock
  • 1 (14.5-ounce) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup chopped basil
  • Garnish: cracked black pepper, sour cream, and croutons

Preparation:

1. Melt butter in a large stockpot over medium heat until foamy. Add carrots, onion, and celery. Season with 1/4 teaspoon salt and pepper. Sauté until onions are translucent, about 6 to 8 minutes. Add garlic, and sauté until fragrant, about 2 minutes.

2. Add tomato paste to sautéed vegetables. Cook until mixture is thick and slightly dry, about 3 minutes, stirring often. Sprinkle flour over mixture, stirring to combine. Cook, stirring constantly, for 3 minutes.

3. Slowly pour in vegetable stock, whisking until smooth. Add crushed tomatoes and remaining 1/2 teaspoon salt, whisking to combine. Cover, and increase heat to high; bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium-low, and simmer for 40 minutes, occasionally whisking and scraping bottom of pot to keep from scalding.

4. Meanwhile, combine brown sugar and vinegar in a small saucepan over medium heat. Simmer, stirring occasionally, until mixture is syrupy and reduced by half, about 10 minutes. Set aside.

5. Add cream and basil to soup, stirring to combine. Add reserved sugar-vinegar mixture, stirring to combine. Purée soup in the pot using a hand blender; alternatively, puree soup in batches with a regular blender. Pour pureed soup through a fine-mesh sieve into a separate stockpot or serving bowl.

6. Garnish each serving with cracked black pepper, sour cream, and croutons.
