Adventurers Club Props Appear On Backlot

I don’t know about the Adventurers Club like most people do because we were only there once, but the Pleasure Island part of Downtown Disney is something that I knew of rather well from my earlier years.  I roller skated there at the multi-floor skating facility, we went to the Comedy Warehouse, and went to many other locations.

I was checking out some of the stuff that Jeff Lange has been posting from one of his upcoming visits to Disney World.  He had photos of some props from the now extinct Adventurers Club.  They were found on the backlot in Hollywood Studios.  I still don’t understand why they would end up there unless they are going to use them for something else down the road.  The items that were on most of the buildings were secured in such ways that one would think that they were mostly useless at this point.  From one of the photos it looks like they used some sort of cutting tools to remove the tail section of the plane.

Finding Smokes In Disney

If you are a smoker then you know how difficult it is to find any tobacco on Disney grounds.  For the most part you need to go to at least the gas station in the Downtown Disney area.  If you have a car, then I suggest getting off Disney grounds to get your smoking goods.  If you smoke cigars then you can actually purchase cigar goods, and smoke cigars in the Downtown area without incident.  Some people have said that the Sosa Cigars are the best around.  To purchase items you can also go to Sosa cigars internet site.

What I don’t know is if you can actually smoke a cigarette in the cigar bar.  Does anyone know this answer?

Hyperion Wharf Information

Have you ever wondered what Disney is going to do with the famed Pleasure Island?

Gone are the days of the Adventurers Club, Comedy Warehouse, roller skating, and more.

Well, we have been given some information, and I thought you might like to see what Disney is planning.

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (Nov. 18, 2010) – Work will soon begin on a completely re-imagined Pleasure Island and other one-of-a-kind experiences as Walt Disney World Resort continues to bring new stories to life at Downtown Disney.  Combined, the projects are expected to create an estimated 1,200 new jobs over the next three years.

“We have made great progress since first announcing our vision to bring new shopping, dining and entertainment experiences to Downtown Disney, many of which can’t be found anywhere else and have already become guest favorites,” said Keith Bradford, vice president of Downtown Disney.  “We look forward to providing even more ways for our guests to enjoy Downtown Disney, while at the same time creating new jobs for Central Floridians.”

A nostalgic yet modern take on an early 20th century port city and amusement pier will evolve Pleasure Island into “Hyperion Wharf.”  By day, the bustling port district will draw guests in with its stylish boutiques and innovative restaurants and by night, thousands of lights will transform the area into an electric wonderland.

Taking its name from Hyperion, the Greek god of light, as well as the street on which Walt Disney built his first major animation studio, the wharf district also will feature a relaxing lakeside park and enhanced pedestrian walkways.  Its diverse eateries will expand dining availability at Downtown Disney by more than 25 percent.

“Hyperion Wharf will offer guests of all ages a vibrant atmosphere and new experiences that can be enjoyed by day or by night,” said Bradford.  “Whether looking for a great place to dine with the whole family or a place to relax and enjoy live music, Hyperion Wharf will provide the perfect setting for guests to make new memories with us.”

In addition to the new wharf district, numerous other projects are underway at Downtown Disney, including:
  • An extensive renovation of Lego Imagination Center, which will increase its overall footprint by nearly 3,500 square-feet and add new Lego exterior models featuring scenes from classic Disney movies
  • Enhancements at AMC that will take the movie-going experience at Downtown Disney to the next level with new digital technology, a paradigm-shifting Concession Stand of the Future and Florida’s first Fork & Screen Theater
  • Numerous new or renovated retail shops and merchandise vignettes, as well as additional atmosphere entertainment, throughout Downtown Disney.
Combined, these projects are expected to create an estimated 600 construction jobs, 500 restaurant, retail and entertainment jobs and support 100 vendor and supplier jobs.
Other recent additions to Downtown Disney include:
  • New entertainment, such as the Characters in Flight tethered balloon ride, the ETX theater at AMC and an enhanced outdoor performance area
  • Unique shopping experiences like D Street, littlemissmatched, RIDEMAKERZ,
    Tren-D and Disney’s Design-a-Tee
  • Immersive dining, like T-Rex: A Prehistoric Family Adventure, Paradiso 37 and the recently opened Pollo Campero and Fresh A-Peel, a new quick-service restaurant combining authentic Latin-style chicken and side dishes, as well as fresh, healthy creations such as salads, wraps and gluten-free desserts.

Disney K’Nex Toys

I just found out about some new toys.  Here is the article.

Disney Park aficionados can agree that Space Mountain and Dumbo the Flying Elephant attractions are two of the most beloved and iconic attractions in the Parks. Whether you’re soaring at the speed of sound through space or flying high with the help of a gentle elephant with magical ears, riding these attractions is a Disney rite of passage for both the young & young at heart.

Now, through the Magic of Disney Theme Park Merchandise and K’NEX (construction and building toys), you can bring the magic of Disney home and watch as your favorite attractions come to life, with our the Space Mountain and Dumbo the Flying Elephant Building Sets! Too cool for words – you have to see how it works to believe it!

Both building sets are now available. The best place to find them will be inside Once Upon A Toy in Downtown Disney at Walt Disney World.

Downtown Disney Without McDonalds?

I just read an article in the Orlando Sentinel that Disney will be removing McDonalds from Downtown Disney later this year.  I know that they had removed the McDonalds items from the stands, and locations throughout the park, but this is a bold move by Disney in my eyes.  McDonalds has always been synonymous with Disney for many years as far as I know.  Disney movies get ramped up with the kids happy meals by who else… McDonalds.  Well, here is the text from their site.

Pollo Campero, an international Latin chicken quick-service restaurant chain, has partnered with Levy Campero to deliver a new restaurant concept in the Downtown Disney Marketplace at Walt Disney World Resort. The restaurant, which is scheduled to open in late 2010, will replace McDonald’s and feature Latin cusine, as well as fresh, and healthful foods. Menu items will include salads, chicken, yuca fries, sweet plantains, and Latin drinks including horchata and tamarindo.Pollo Campero, the world’s largest Latin chicken restaurant chain, serves more than 85 million customers each year at more than 300 restaurants in 12 countries around the globe. This includes more than 50 locations already open in the United States, with additional stores scheduled to open this year.
