Can’t Wait To See The FantasyLand Expansion

This year we are going to Disney World from the day after Christmas through the New Year.  We have not gone during this timeframe in many years.  This has a lot to do with money, family, and everything else.  Being that our daughter is in 6th grade we are more watchful of the days out of school.  In the past she might have missed 2-3 days because of a vacation.  This had a lot to do with how the school system can’t schedule anything to work with everyone.

Being that we are going in December we aren’t going to get to see any of the Fantasyland Expansion being completed for at least another year.  Next year we are taking an 8 night cruise out of New York on the Disney Cruise Line, but the 1 day that they give us into the parks that is included will not allow us to see much because time will not permit.

I have been checking out videos that have been posted by someone that goes to Disney a lot, and the Fantasyland Expansion looks like it is moving along rather nice.  I only wish that they were going to have something done for us to see when we go next month.

Maybe Disney can grant me one of many unusual presents and let me check out what is being done.

Fantasyland Expansion Timeline

Being Disney is never exact on their timelines I would follow this timeline as if I were a betting man.  This is information that was mentioned at the recent D23 convention.

Early 2012 – Half of Storybook Circus with double dumbo, great goofini coaster,fantasyland train station, casey jr.

Late 2012 (November-December) – Under the Sea ~ Journey of the Little Mermaid ride, Be Our Guest restaurant, Beauty and the Beast village, Belle meet-and-greet, Castle wall

Early 2013 – Remaining half of Storybook Circus with Pete’s Silly Sideshow

Late 2013 – Seven Dwarfs Mine Train roller coaster

Fantasyland Is Looking Good So Far

From recent photos that I have seen of the Fantasyland Expansion it appears that construction is going along well.  In the photos, and videos you can see the steel buildings that make up Beasts Castle, Dumbos Ride, and a few other structures that they are working on.

As soon as I can download them I will republish them here.

We are going to our timeshare in December, but I told my wife that I don’t think I want to go into the Magic Kingdom until we go again in August 2012.  That will allow us to see a more completed item.  On top of that I am sure that the Magic Kingdom gets a little cramped due to the magnitude of things that were closed, and the area that is walled off.

She understands my theory, but she is just unsure if she wants to go.  I have told her to go to the Magic Kingdom, and I will go somewhere else.

Toontown Is Gone.

I was just checking out JeffLangeDVD.com, and saw video and pictures of what Toontown in Disney World looks like now.  They were pretty fast in putting up a large green fence, and taking down what they needed to in order to continue with the Fantasyland Expansion project.  The Fantasyland Expansion project is tenative to be complete in 2012.

In the photos that I saw you can see that Judges Tent, Mickeys House, and Minnies House are gone.  This leaves me to wonder where they put Plutos dog beds.  That’s a joke.  From everything that I have read Goofy’s Barnstormer will remain, and be renamed.  I am not sure about the ship at this point.

With all the walls that are up around Fantasyland it makes me a bit more happy that I am not going to the Magic Kingdom for the upcoming trip we are going on.  Yes, Disney needed a major change somewhere, and it looks like it will finally get it.  I believe that this expansion will greatly increase the amount of people that can get into the Magic Kingdom, which isn’t always a good thing.

Fantasyland Expansion Updates

The plans have changed before, and I am sure that nothing is final until it is finished with Disney in regards to the Fantasyland Expansion that is underway in the Magic Kingdom.

Scheduled to open in phases beginning in late 2012, the new Fantasyland will immerse guests in Disney stories as never before. Among the highlights planned:

  • Under the Sea ~ Journey of the Little Mermaid, a major, all-new attraction during which guests will travel with Ariel and her friends through their exciting adventures above and below the waves – all against a musical backdrop of songs from the classic film.

  • The castle of the Beast, standing majestically upon a hill just across an old stone bridge from Ariel’s new home. The Be Our Guest Restaurant will feature a lavish dining experience in the elegant ballroom, gallery, and mysterious “West Wing” of the castle. With seating for 550, this magnificent facility will offer “great food fast” service by day and full table service dining in the evening. Nearby in Belle’s Village, guests will find the rousing Gaston’s Tavern and Bonjour! Village Gifts.
  • Just outside the village is Belle’s cottage and Enchanted Tales with Belle. The adventure begins in Maurice’s workshop, where a magical mirror is the doorway to a captivating new kind of storytelling experience: Guests are transported to the Beast’s library to meet Belle and Lumiere, and share in a lively, interactive, re-telling of the “tale as old as time.”
  • The Seven Dwarfs Mine Train will take guests on a rollicking, musical ride into the mine “where a million diamonds shine.” The coaster will feature a first-of-its kind ride system with a train of ride vehicles that swing back and forth, responding to every twist and turn of the track. The journey will be accompanied by music from the classic Disney film and animated figures of Snow White and the Dwarfs.

  • In Princess Fairytale Hall, Aurora, Cinderella and other Disney princesses, such as Tiana and Rapunzel, will greet guests in their new home, an elegant royal court on the site where Snow White’s Scary Adventures stands today.
  • The sound of the calliope will lead guests to the brand new Storybook Circus and not one but two circling carousels of airborne pachyderms on Dumbo the Flying Elephant. Before taking to the skies on this Fantasyland favorite, guests can experience an array of fun-filled family games and interactive wonders for kids of all ages inside the Big Top.

  • Next door in Storybook Circus, the classic Barnstormer gets a bright new look as well, featuring Goofy as The Great Goofini. It’s a twisting, turning roller coaster “flight” high above the circus fun.
