Video Tapes Keep Piling Up

Each year when we go to Disney, or the cruise we always take @3-4 tapes for our video camera.  Last year I started transferring all the tapes from our camcorders to dvd, or Blu-ray.  I am now looking at a pile of tapes that I am sure can be used a second time, but I also have had bad experiences with reusing tapes.  For some reason we lost a whole vacation because we video taped it on second run tapes that we had.  We now use one of many recording devices so that I don’t have as much work to do in transferring them to dvd, or blu-ray.  If you are going to purchase a camcorder try to find one that has a firewire port on it.  This is one of the best ways to transfer video for editing, and movie making.

Having multiple recording devices has helped us out.  We have 2 Flip cameras, and 1 DV camcorder.  On top of that we have multiple cameras that go with us to Disney.  Word to the wise… Bring a extra memory card for your cameras so that you don’t have to worry about downloading the camera each night while in Disney.

Usually I have extra memory cards, but for the most part I download the photos nightly into our laptop so that we can sort through them before the count gets out of hand.

Fully Customized Maps Of Disney World

A few years ago we got an email telling us that we could create our own customized map of the Disney Parks in Orlando.  After you make them up on your computer they are sent to you, or you can print them at home.  These are very nice if you have plans that you want to make, and want the family to be involved.

Package Pickup In Disney World

So I have been asked several times… “What is package pickup?”

Unless something has changed here is the information.

When you purchase an item in Disney World, and you are a resort guest you can choose to have the package delivered to your resort so that you don’t have to carry it around.  This can be done if you are still staying in the Disney resort through the next night.  If you are checking out the next morning, then you will not be able to do this.

Basically once you make your purchase let the cashier know that you are a resort guest.  They will give you a form to fill out.  You will receive a copy of the form.  Usually within 24 hours your package will be delivered to your resort.

Package pickup at the resorts varies based upon the resort.  Majority of the time the packages will be at the gift shop of the resort you are staying.

If you are a day guest you can elect to have the packages delivered to specified locations for each park.  At the end of the day you go to the location, and pickup your packages.  This will also make it so you don’t have to carry them around all day.

Pet Care In Disney

We have many cats, and dogs in our house.  Taking them to Disney with us would cost us quite a bit of money, and many cat supplies, and dog supplies.  This isn’t economical for us, so we don’t even think about it.  I would have to guess that people that are from distances bring their animals because they don’t want to be away from them, or don’t have anyone to watch them.

Disney does not allow exotic pets, or native wildlife to be boarded in the kennels.

There are many locations throughout the Disney World Resort to board your pet when you go on vacation.  Boarding at the Disney locations allows you to still be able to visit your pet while away, rather than leaving them home with someone to watch them.

If you need standard kennel services reservations are not required, but are recommended.

There is a location at each of the parks, and 1 additional at Fort Wilderness.  Rates are based on several factors.

  • Resort Guest Day
  • Resort Guest Overnight
  • Guest Day
  • Guest Overnight

Additional things that can be purchased are:

  • Extra bathroom walk
  • medicating with owner supplied medication (NO shots / injections)
  • Ice cream break
  • cuddle time

3 of the locations offer 2 bathroom walks, and 2 feedings.  The other 2 locations (Hollywood Studios & Animal Kingdom) do not include any bathroom walks, or feedings.  At these 2 locations the owners must feed, and walk their animals.  Certain loops in the Fort Wilderness Campground allow pets.  When booking reservations make sure to notify them that you have a pet so that they can locate the correct loop for your reservation.

Both cats, and dogs must be current on their vaccinations, and proof needs to be shown.

Disney uses Purina pet food, but owners can bring their own.

This seems to be a great way for pets to get to see what Disney is like.  I know I love Disney, and I haven’t ever been to the kennel.  As a matter of fact… our pets love Disney as well, because they get peace and quiet while we are in Disney.

Disney and Your Feet

Walking through Disney World is a challenge to most people.  Finding shorter ways to get somewhere has been a routine for me.  My wife isn’t bothered by how much walking we do anymore.  Yes, she always has sore feet at the end of the day, but for her walking is like taking fat burners.  By the way… Make sure you are wearing comfortable shoes.

In Epcot there is no real way to cut down the distance one would walk if you are going to go through all of World Showcase.  In the Magic Kingdom a smart person would break it down to areas, and also you can take a train from multiple places back to the beginning.  The Animal Kingdom has the same unique problem that Epcot has.  You pretty much need to do it all, or break it up into multiple days.  Hollywood Studios is wider than it is deep.  The walk here is ok, as it is like sections, and if you aren’t going into a specific area, then you can avoid that.

When walking in any of the parks be sure to pace yourself, and drink plenty of water.
