Character Difference

Have you ever noticed how many Disney characters are based around “Old & Evil” look?  Even though I am a well seasoned Disney veteran I don’t claim to know everything, but I do know a lot.  Disney has added many characters over the years.  Well, I wouldn’t have noticed it as much if it wasn’t for my little one asking me about those characters.  I tried explaining about what the “Old & Evil” ones stand for.

I explained to her that the “Old & Evil” looking ones are Villains, while the “Young & Innocent” ones are the opposite.  Without these characters there would be no conflict, which would in turn cause there to be no story.

After that I told her that all Disney has to do is put some wrinkle fillers on the “Old & Evil” ones, and they wouldn’t look any different than the others.  In the same respect the other characters just have to age, and they would look the same.  Oddly enough I don’t believe there have been many characters that have aged at all.

I just happened to be surfing around, and found a picture that sums this all up… This shouldn’t be offensive.

Duffy Mickeys Bear Makes His Debut

Disney News

On October 14, 2010 at both the Epcot at Walt Disney World and Disney California Adventure park, our newest character, Duffy the Disney Bear will make his much anticipated debut. But who’s Duffy you might ask? He’s Mickey’s very own teddy bear….made with love by Minnie herself.

Duffy the Disney Bear

You see, awhile ago, Mickey was about to set sail on an adventure to visit friends around the world. Minnie made a special gift to keep Mickey company and she presented it to Mickey in a duffle bag. Mickey, delighted with his gift, pulled out the gift, a very special bear, and named him Duffy. Mickey and Duffy embarked on many special voyages and Duffy got to meet all of Mickey’s friends. Each time they returned home, Mickey and Duffy would share their stories and photos with Minnie. While on their travels, Duffy and Mickey landed at Tokyo Disney Sea where they have been meeting and greeting fans for the past few years.

Duffy is not just your typical stuffed bear – he’s Mickey’s bear and he resembles his owner. Duffy’s face is shaped like Mickey’s, he has Mickey heads on his paws, and he has a very unique birthmark on his hip. There is no question who he belongs to.

We are very excited to welcome Duffy here in October to join our character family.

Duffy the Disney Bear Costumes

Not only will guests get to meet Duffy and have their picture taken with him, but we will launch Duffy’s full line of costumes and souvenirs like key chains, magnets, zip pouches and even pre-dressed Duffys that will launch for special holidays like Christmas and Easter and occasions such as birthdays and graduations. The launch will also consist of some special treats like his crispy treat, chocolatey cake, moulded dessert cup, menu placemat with activities and coming later, Duffy’s very own moulded popcorn bucket. In addition, Epcot’s Kidcot mask program will be changing to a unique Duffy that Guests can take from country to country to color, decorate, and receive country specific Duffy stamps.

Duffy will be located at a newly created venue inside Epcot across from the Mexico boat ramp and at Disney California Adventure park on Paradise Pier.

I can’t wait for you to meet Duffy. He’s so loveable and huggable and I can’t wait to hear where you will take YOUR Duffy!!!!

Disney World Dining From Your Cell Phone

Making dining reservations in Disney World has just gotten a bit easier.  There is no download of an app necessary.  All you have to do is navigate to http://disneyworld.com/dining from your internet based smartphone, and you will get a very easy to use dining planner.  If you have a Droid, or an IPhone, then you can currently use this feature.  Blackberry users will have to wait a bit, as that part isn’t finished yet.

There are many different ways you can search with this tool.  Give it a try and see how easy it is.

For those of you still in the “Stone Phone Age” just call 407-WDW-DINE to make your reservations.

I tried it from my Droid, and it is very easy to use.

Here is a screenshot from the IPhone version.

Castaway Cay Updates

Have you ever walked from one end of Castaway Cay to the other?  (Boat exit to Serenity Bay)  Well, on our last cruise we did.  There are no appetite suppressant diet pills needed because you will get some serious exercise.  It isn’t a walk that I would want to do again because it takes a lot out of you with the heat, and distance in consideration.  One thing that you can’t seem to avoid while on the island is the sun.  This is great for those that want to tan, but be forewarned that you will burn quickly so make sure you have sunblock, or whatever you use.

The Castaway Cay renovations seem to be coming to a finish as far as my information goes.  Below you will find a newly updated Castaway Cay map.

Click on the picture for a full size view.

Some of the new areas are:

Pelican Plunge, Cabanas, Massage Cabanas, and the Observation Tower

Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue Bluray Review

Our daughter loves almost anything that has to do with Disney.  There are very few characters that she really loves, and they are Tigger, Tinker Bell, and Snow White.  Our daughter has begged to see each Tinker Bell movie, and she has successfully gotten her way each time.  While the Tinker Bell movies are mainly involving girl fairies boys will also enjoy the movie.  Recently she got to review the Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue DVD/BluRay Combo.

In my daughters own words…

It was cute how curiousity got the best of Tinker Bell, and all the other Fairies had to work together to save her.  This movie showed the true meaning of friendship.

The Fairies all seem very smart.  Tinker Bell used her brains, and figured out how the cage was closed, but she was to small to unlock the locks.  Some of the Fairies that came to Tinks rescue need to learn how to build muscle fast because they had issues getting the one Fairy out of the mud.  It took one to realize that they could take advantage of another situation to get the Fairy out.  We all thought that the storyline was rather well thought up.  There is always a lesson to be learned in Disney movies.  The movie had excellent graphics, and the music in the movie was well combined.  If they made this movie in 3D, then the experience would be excellent as far as we are concerned.  We would definitelly recommend this movie to anyone that has children. (Especially girls)

The movie has a MSRP of $29.99 for the DVD, and $39.99 for the Combo Pack.  The combo pack is great because our little one can download the movie to her Zen portable player, and watch it whenever she chooses.

Other reviews…

“A testament to Disney’s impressive production quality” – Premiere.com

“There’s a steady heartbeat pulsing deep within this direct-to-video gem.” – Blu-ray.com

“Highly Recommended!” – DVDTalk.com

“This is the kind of movie that it seems Blu-ray was invented for.” – Table4Five.com

“The kids are absolutely head over heels with the movie.” -TheParentsWithStyle.com

“Unlike some other kiddie franchises, the Tinker Bell fairies pack a slightly edgier punch… which is a nice contrast to the constant cheerfulness and eternal optimism that can sap any hint of realism out of other kids’ movies.” – CommonSenseMedia.org

As with almost any Disney Movie there is a Disney Movie Rewards code inside the package.  These codes get entered into the Disney Movie Rewards site, and you can earn FREE prizes, and more.

While we are at it… Here is a $10 coupon towards the purchase of the movie.  Get it HERE.

And here is more… Disney has some “Fairy” activities for you.  You can download them by clicking HERE.

We were given a copy of the Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue movie so as to review the movie.  Receiving this movie had no effect on the review.
