Shopping For Gifts While Away

When we go to the Disney World Resort in Florida we always find ourselves looking for some sort of souvenier, or gifts for upcoming holidays.  Finding the unique gift that you would want to give someone is always a challenge.  My little brother “L” is a football person, and likes the Giants.  Well, we have looked high and low, but we cannot seem to find any sort of Mickey Mouse with Giants clothing.

We even thought of getting him a stuffed Mickey Mouse, and then using NFL shop coupons to get some Giants clothing.  We decided that it just wouldn’t be the same as buying something that is already done up.  Throwing something together isn’t the same as searching for that one of a kind gift.

What do you think about our manner of thinking?

Disney For The Holidays

This year we are going to Disney World right after Christmas.  We still have family here so we have to make our appearances at their homes.  We are going to be in Disney for New Years.  We have already planned it out that we will be in the Magic Kingdom when the ball drops.  We haven’t done Disney at this time of year in a long time.  Keeping the weather in mind we have all packed some very thick jackets so that we don’t freeze.  From everything I have been reading, and watching the weather gets down at night.  Maybe ski jackets would work great.

We are all hoping that the crowds work with us while we are there being that we are only getting 1 park hopper each.  It will be nice to see the lights throughout the parks, and the Osbourne light display at Hollywood Studios.

Have you ever done Disney World during the holidays?  What did you think?

Adventurers Club Props Appear On Backlot

I don’t know about the Adventurers Club like most people do because we were only there once, but the Pleasure Island part of Downtown Disney is something that I knew of rather well from my earlier years.  I roller skated there at the multi-floor skating facility, we went to the Comedy Warehouse, and went to many other locations.

I was checking out some of the stuff that Jeff Lange has been posting from one of his upcoming visits to Disney World.  He had photos of some props from the now extinct Adventurers Club.  They were found on the backlot in Hollywood Studios.  I still don’t understand why they would end up there unless they are going to use them for something else down the road.  The items that were on most of the buildings were secured in such ways that one would think that they were mostly useless at this point.  From one of the photos it looks like they used some sort of cutting tools to remove the tail section of the plane.

Can’t Wait To See The FantasyLand Expansion

This year we are going to Disney World from the day after Christmas through the New Year.  We have not gone during this timeframe in many years.  This has a lot to do with money, family, and everything else.  Being that our daughter is in 6th grade we are more watchful of the days out of school.  In the past she might have missed 2-3 days because of a vacation.  This had a lot to do with how the school system can’t schedule anything to work with everyone.

Being that we are going in December we aren’t going to get to see any of the Fantasyland Expansion being completed for at least another year.  Next year we are taking an 8 night cruise out of New York on the Disney Cruise Line, but the 1 day that they give us into the parks that is included will not allow us to see much because time will not permit.

I have been checking out videos that have been posted by someone that goes to Disney a lot, and the Fantasyland Expansion looks like it is moving along rather nice.  I only wish that they were going to have something done for us to see when we go next month.

Maybe Disney can grant me one of many unusual presents and let me check out what is being done.

Disney And Clean Energy

For many years I have been amazed by what the power of the sun can really do for us.  Many years ago I started going on the Epcot attraction “Universe of Energy.”  This ride is partially powered by solar electricity.  This saves some serious money as far as I am concerned.

The original Universe of Energy pavilion itself was an innovation in energy technology, as the entire roof was covered in 80,000 photovoltaic solar cells that partially powered the ride vehicles. Visitors were transported through the pavilion in large battery-powered “traveling theatre cars” that followed guide-wires embedded in the floor as opposed to riding along conventional ride tracks. The original attraction featured numerous films that presented information on the subject of energy in a serious fashion as well as a ride through a primeval diorama complete with animatronic dinosaurs.

So why hasn’t Disney put more solar into their parks?

I am sure that there must be some reason that Disney hasn’t implemented solar into the parks, but they have not released any formal answer to this question.  From everything that I have read the only “Green” thing that they have accomplished to date is the replacement of light bulbs with LED bulbs.  This is a big savings.

I am taking the leap ahead with solar.  I started by checking out all of the options for New Jersey energy savings.  I couldn’t afford to purchase the system, so I am doing a lease.  I still get all the benefits of lower priced electric.
