Disney World Is Getting An Avatar

I was just checking through some news that I get about Disney.  I have quoted from The Independent the following piece that I found totally amazing.  Whether or not this actually happens will totally depend on Disney.  It seems that they change their plans continuously.

Disney will build a new Avatar-themed amusement park, the entertainment giant confirmed September 20.

The world’s first Avatar-themed land will be constructed at multi-park Walt Disney World in Florida, within the existing Animal Kingdom area, but with an option to expand into other Disney parks.

Avatar director James Cameron and producer Jon Landau will work with Disney to create the park, which Cameron said would “go beyond current boundaries of technical innovation and experiential storytelling.”

Guests will be able to experience the mysterious universe of Avatar firsthand through the park, with construction expected to begin in 2013.

With two further Avatar films expected in the coming years, the park will explore locations, characters and stories that have not yet appeared on screen, James Cameron confirmed.

The park will include rides, shops and places to eat and drink and will take around five years to build.

The enhancement is the latest in a series of new features forWalt Disney World, the world’s most popular theme park, with millions being spent on enhancing the brand’s theme park offerings.

Earlier this year, a new attraction based on the epic Star Warsfilm opened, featuring 50 different storylines, 3D digital video and motion-based simulators.

Despite a global growth in world theme parks, visitor numbers at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom fell by 1.5 percent last year – although with 16.9 million visitors, it remains far and away the most popular theme park in the world, accounting for the lion’s share of visitors to Walt Disney World.

Animal Kingdom, where the Avatar attraction is to be built, attracted just over 9.6 million visitors, according to the Theme Entertainment Association – a number that is sure to surge when the Navi’i arrive.

Disney’s French Fried Ice Cream

For years I have desired to have French Fried Ice Cream like I used to get when we visited the Disney Inn.  The Disney Inn became Shades Of Green.  Shades Of Green is a military resort on the Disney World property.

A few weeks ago I decided that I wanted to make a real nice dinner for our anniversary.  A fresh garden salad was served.  I made a main course of Crab Meat Ravioli which comes from Tangaroa Terrace at the Polynesian Resort.  An accompanyment of Garlic bread was also available.  I made a dessert of French Fried Ice Cream.

Notes:

  • I made the fresh pasta dough, and formed them with a ravioli/pierogi form that we had.
  • I used a deep frier for the French Fried Ice Cream.

We ate these for our anniversary, and then I made it again a few days later when my uncle came up to visit.  No one seemed to have any problems with the food.  My uncle actually had a second serving so it must not have been that bad.

Here is the recipe for the Crab Meat Ravioli

  • 1 lb crab meat
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1/4 cup minced shallots
  • 1/2 cup minced mushrooms
  • 1/2 cup cracker crumbs
  • 2/3 cup white sauce (additional recipe)
  • 1 tsp thyme
  • salt
  • pepper

Here is the recipe for French Fried Ice Cream…

(Yield: 4 servings)

  • 1 pt Vanilla (or any flavor) ice cream
  • 2 Egg whites (divided)
  • 3 tbsp Almond paste (3 ounces)
  • 1 1/2 cup Graham cracker crumbs
  • Vegetable oil or fat
  • Peach halves (fresh or canned)
  • Fresh Strawberries
  • chopped walnuts
  • mint leaves
  • 4 10 inch flour tortillas
  • Vanilla sauce (as follows)

——————————-VANILLA SAUCE——————————-

  • 2 tbsp margarine
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 1/2 cup half and half
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 4 tbsp heavy cream

Watersports In Disney World

Many years ago before I met my wife I had the opportunity to take part in a watersport while we were at the Disney World Resort in Florida.  I tried out waterskiing.  This was an experience for me.  Being a highly experienced swimmer, and diver I never thought of the other things that could be done on the water.  For me waterskiing was a bit tough because I had never done it, and usually a persons first time doing something tells whether or not they will do something again.  I enjoyed it, but for me I never did it again because of the cost.

I have been checking out the different things that can be done now at the Walt Disney Resort.  There is a Sammy Duvall watersport center at the Contemporary.  At that location you can get involved in parasailing, personal watercraft, and also towed water sports.

I know I won’t go near the parasailing because I am not that keen on heights.  What’s weird about that is in my line of work I go on rooftops without issue.  If I ever change my mind about parasailing I will be sure to ask about insurance.  The insurance is because if I do something that might finish me I want something to take care of my family.  I am sure people that dive out of airplanes have skydiving life insurance.  I hope they have parasailing insurance, or something like that.

Have you ever taken part in any of the Sammy Duvall activities in Disney World?

Disney Should Protect Themself

Over the years there have been a few fatal accidents at the Disney World Resort in Florida.  Only after lawsuits were brought about did anyone actually find out that quite a few, if not all of the victims were not exactly in perfect health.  Maybe Disney needs to think up a way to require people to have something on file that shows their health condition.  I know… This would be impossible to enforce, and people would probably just not go to the parks.

I know that this sounds a bit over the edge, but at the same time too many people are trying to sue someone.  It isn’t just Disney.  Other large companies have been sued by shrewd people.  After I read through quite a few of the reports they found ekgs that showed previous issues existed.

What do you think about the lovely people that are out to hurt whomever they must in order to try and make a buck?

Fantasyland Is Looking Good So Far

From recent photos that I have seen of the Fantasyland Expansion it appears that construction is going along well.  In the photos, and videos you can see the steel buildings that make up Beasts Castle, Dumbos Ride, and a few other structures that they are working on.

As soon as I can download them I will republish them here.

We are going to our timeshare in December, but I told my wife that I don’t think I want to go into the Magic Kingdom until we go again in August 2012.  That will allow us to see a more completed item.  On top of that I am sure that the Magic Kingdom gets a little cramped due to the magnitude of things that were closed, and the area that is walled off.

She understands my theory, but she is just unsure if she wants to go.  I have told her to go to the Magic Kingdom, and I will go somewhere else.
