No More Trick-Or-Treating & Such

When a company does something routinely for years it usually isn’t something good when you change it.  For years there has been Trick-Or-Treating in Downtown Disney.  We went there because the tickets for Mickeys Not So Scary Halloween Party were a bit pricey for us.

I was just going through my information sources and found out that Disney will not be doing Trick-or-Treating at the Downtown Disney area this year.

I also found out that FREE face painting in the Magic Kingdom has also been cut for this year.

I am figuring that the economic situation that the world is in is finally taking its toll on Disney, events, and its pricing.

Disney World Is Getting An Avatar

I was just checking through some news that I get about Disney.  I have quoted from The Independent the following piece that I found totally amazing.  Whether or not this actually happens will totally depend on Disney.  It seems that they change their plans continuously.

Disney will build a new Avatar-themed amusement park, the entertainment giant confirmed September 20.

The world’s first Avatar-themed land will be constructed at multi-park Walt Disney World in Florida, within the existing Animal Kingdom area, but with an option to expand into other Disney parks.

Avatar director James Cameron and producer Jon Landau will work with Disney to create the park, which Cameron said would “go beyond current boundaries of technical innovation and experiential storytelling.”

Guests will be able to experience the mysterious universe of Avatar firsthand through the park, with construction expected to begin in 2013.

With two further Avatar films expected in the coming years, the park will explore locations, characters and stories that have not yet appeared on screen, James Cameron confirmed.

The park will include rides, shops and places to eat and drink and will take around five years to build.

The enhancement is the latest in a series of new features forWalt Disney World, the world’s most popular theme park, with millions being spent on enhancing the brand’s theme park offerings.

Earlier this year, a new attraction based on the epic Star Warsfilm opened, featuring 50 different storylines, 3D digital video and motion-based simulators.

Despite a global growth in world theme parks, visitor numbers at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom fell by 1.5 percent last year – although with 16.9 million visitors, it remains far and away the most popular theme park in the world, accounting for the lion’s share of visitors to Walt Disney World.

Animal Kingdom, where the Avatar attraction is to be built, attracted just over 9.6 million visitors, according to the Theme Entertainment Association – a number that is sure to surge when the Navi’i arrive.

Disney’s French Fried Ice Cream

For years I have desired to have French Fried Ice Cream like I used to get when we visited the Disney Inn.  The Disney Inn became Shades Of Green.  Shades Of Green is a military resort on the Disney World property.

A few weeks ago I decided that I wanted to make a real nice dinner for our anniversary.  A fresh garden salad was served.  I made a main course of Crab Meat Ravioli which comes from Tangaroa Terrace at the Polynesian Resort.  An accompanyment of Garlic bread was also available.  I made a dessert of French Fried Ice Cream.

Notes:

  • I made the fresh pasta dough, and formed them with a ravioli/pierogi form that we had.
  • I used a deep frier for the French Fried Ice Cream.

We ate these for our anniversary, and then I made it again a few days later when my uncle came up to visit.  No one seemed to have any problems with the food.  My uncle actually had a second serving so it must not have been that bad.

Here is the recipe for the Crab Meat Ravioli

  • 1 lb crab meat
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1/4 cup minced shallots
  • 1/2 cup minced mushrooms
  • 1/2 cup cracker crumbs
  • 2/3 cup white sauce (additional recipe)
  • 1 tsp thyme
  • salt
  • pepper

Here is the recipe for French Fried Ice Cream…

(Yield: 4 servings)

  • 1 pt Vanilla (or any flavor) ice cream
  • 2 Egg whites (divided)
  • 3 tbsp Almond paste (3 ounces)
  • 1 1/2 cup Graham cracker crumbs
  • Vegetable oil or fat
  • Peach halves (fresh or canned)
  • Fresh Strawberries
  • chopped walnuts
  • mint leaves
  • 4 10 inch flour tortillas
  • Vanilla sauce (as follows)

——————————-VANILLA SAUCE——————————-

  • 2 tbsp margarine
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 1/2 cup half and half
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 4 tbsp heavy cream

Contests From Disney

I usually don’t enter many contests that are sponsored by rather large companies.  I was doing some research the other day and found out that there was a contest run that Disney and Volvo were in together.  They had supposedly sunk a treasure somewhere in the world and it was for the taking.  There was also a new Volvo vehicle as part of the contest.  Good thing for things like the volvo S60 custom floor mats being in cars because the floor does get wet, and can you think how wet a floor could be with being in a sunk car…?  The actual car was not sunk.  Just keys.

Anyway… Disney only seems to run contests when they have to do with something that they want to make it big.

Have you ever won a Disney contest?
