Timeshare Tours Are A Waste

We love Disney, but from time to time we want to see what we are missing by owning DVC, and not another timeshare.  While away in Orlando, Fl we sometimes take a timeshare tour to see what else is available on the market.  On one of our more memorable trips we got to tour Westgate.  I would have never thought that I would have had a bad experience, but we did.  We were told to show up at a specified time, which we did.  We were also told we would have a great breakfast waiting for us.

After showing up we had to sit in a lobby, and wait for someone to get us.  We finally got called by a guy, and he brought us into a dining room, and sat us down.  He said that we should get something to eat, so we said ok.  We looked, and all we saw was Hot Dogs, and soda.  Moving on… he took us on a tour of the place.  We stopped, and looked at maps of locations we could stay like the ocho rios hotels, or even Atlantis in Bahamas.  Then we finally came back to the main room where they try to finalize their sale.  We told them that we were only looking, and that was that.  He proceeded to have his boss come over to try and sell us.  We told him no.  He made a final effort to have his boss come over, and we told them that we weren’t dealing with anymore, and that we just wanted to leave, and get our tickets that we were purchasing at a discounted rate because we were touring.  After all was figured out we were there at Westgate for 7 hours.  We contacted the PR dept., and they promised to give us a comp. for 3 nights because of the issues.  We never received that, and I am actually glad because their program isn’t even in the same class as DVC.

The DVC rep met us, and showed us some things.  After we told her that we would contact her she thanked us, and we went on our way.  No high pressure, and no additional salespeople.  Kelly was an excellent DVC tourguide.

  1. After June 21, 2010 Marriott discontinued selling timeshares; Marriott no longer markets a single timeshare in america! On June 21 Marriott joined up with their Ritz-Carlton division and then became their second Destination Club (DC). Have no idea what a DC happens to be; well it is an upscale rendition of a time share. Marriott is now able to address your whole family vacation starting from the time you exit ones own front door to the moment you return. The Marriott DC markets Vacation Points which you turn in to be able to book villas at their forty resorts around the globe. In the event you own Marriott weeks at the present (timeshares) you’ll be able to enroll them, for a fee, into the brand new DC; you still own them and can use them the old way yet they could be redeemed for Points with the DC. Points are useful to get reservations, acquire exchanges within Interval International, utilize them for adventures at your vacation destination, along with vacation cruise line tickets. Marriott has added various deadlines plus in case you have any interest you should check out Marriott’s innovative Destination Club.

One way to find out about other timeshare resorts is to occasionally rent a timeshare (if you don’t want to use your exchange points). We’ve had fun doing that by getting bargains through http://www.redweek.com. We’ve enjoyed the experience, but of course are Always thankful we own at DVC.
